Qualification for Child Care Workers

Nowadays quality child care centers are in high demand. Day care Requirements

Day care teachers must meet the educational requirements of their employer and the state.Most of the teachers requires minimum high school diploma or equivalent education.But some do insist on previous years experience for those who have completed post-secondary classes in early childhood education or who have achieved certification

Head Start Requirements

Head Start teachers must have a minimum of an associate degree. Associate degree programs typically include classes in child behavior and development, learning environments, curriculum and parent-teacher relationships. The government requires half or more of teachers in Head Start programs to have a bachelor's degree in early childhood education . A teacher with a degree in a different field must have work experience with children under age 5.

Professional Certification

The National Child Care Association offers the Child Care Professional (CCP) certification (www.nccanet.org). This certification requires both classroom experience and continuing education courses, and it is available to those who hold a high school diploma or equivalent. The Council for Professional Recognition offers the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, which is part of the licensing regulations for 49 states (www.cdacouncil.org). 

Education Requirements for Child Care Administrators All Child Care Center Administrators must have the North Carolina Early Childhood Administration Credential (NCECAC) or its equivalent. Administrators must enroll within six months of being hired and will have two years from their date of hire to satisfy the NCECAC or equivalency requirements.
